About
How I got here
I started in IT with a degree in data processing, at the time when companies were first getting connected. My first job was in networks: Cisco routers and Cisco certifications. Then came Windows networks: installing and running Windows NT servers with SQL Server, Exchange and Active Directory, both at ACSP.
At Cimpor I kept working in infrastructure as a contractor, but I wanted to join the company and move closer to the data. So I taught myself Visual Basic, moved into development, and became an SAP analyst just as SAP BW 3.5 arrived.
That BW experience opened the door to Klabin in 2008. I spent ten years building and running its SAP BI platform, then built the FP&A area inside the data warehouse (2016 – 2018) and moved into FP&A full time until 2021.
In the US, I joined Penn State in 2022 and kept a data focus while being pulled into statistics, models and machine learning for biomedical research. Since 2024 I’ve been at the University of Pennsylvania, building genomic data systems and doing research on the Penn Medicine BioBank.
The domains changed, but the work stayed the same: take data that is spread out, build the system that organizes it, and deliver something people trust to make decisions.
Career path
Networks → Windows servers → development → SAP BW → BI and data warehousing → FP&A → statistics, ML and genomic data systems.
